Farmer's Market Experience

The Woodford County Middle School's 8th Grade Art Students participated in the Bluegrass PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment) "Bring On the Barrels" Rain Barrel Project.  Local artists have donated their time and talent to turn rain barrels into functional yard art.  These decorated barrels will be on display throughout Central Kentucky (the WCMS's rain barrel is at the Conservation District office at 180 Beasley Road) until they are auctioned off on eBay.  The auction starts June 6th and ends June 16th.  Proceeds from the auction will benefit PRIDE's environmental programs throughout Central Kentucky.  On June 6th, PRIDE will host a Rain Barrel reception in the Lower Atrium of Lexington Green on Nicholasville Road.  This event, sponsored by Whitaker Bank, will be the only chance to view all of the barrels together, as well as to meet the artists.  The reception will be from 5-7:30 pm and will kick off the online auction.  Why Use a Rain Barrel?  Rain barrels connect to your downspout, decreasing the amount of rain that runs off your property.  Installing a barrel benefits the environment and you.  The water saved in rain barrels can be used for watering flowers, gardens and lawns all through the summer, even in times of drought.  Reduced water demand will lower your use of municipal water supplies, saving you money.

You may vote for your favorite rain barrel (hopefully it will be from the students at WCMS) at www.kentuckypride.com.
